Brigantine is an ocean launch located just north of downtown
Atlantic city.
The accessible beach is wide and expansive. The
launch faces SE into the
Atlantic Ocean. It is noted that the beach is
most preferably accessed on
a 4WD vehicle provided that you have the permit.
However, it is also
possible to access the beach otherwise at the north end of
Brigantine
where the distance from the paved road to the water is much shorter
than
it is in southern Brigantine. This launch is used also by kite
boarders,
SUPs, kayaks, especially when the wind is onshore.
Directions: take the Atlantic city expressway
(ACE) eastbound. Upon
the approach to Caesars Palace and the Trump towers,
takes exit 1
towards Brigantine. This will take you on a winding
expressway that
goes through a tunnel, then past the Trump Marina, and then
over
a bridge onto Brigantine where it becomes Brigantine Blvd.
To access the
southern beaches on a 4WD, travel about 1 mile into
Brigantine and turn right at
first traffic light onto Harbour Beach Blvd
and travel to an end. Turn
left onto Ocean Drive W and find a dirt
or sandy access road on your right to
access the beach.
For the northern beach, do not turn right onto Harbour Beach
Blvd
but continue straight on Brigantine Blvd. After going through a
traffic circle, the road becomes W Brigantine Ave. Continue traveling
northbound until the road becomes E Brigantine Ave. Park anywhere
north of
S Roosevelt Blvd. At the north end of E Brigantine Ave
(i.e., from 9th St
N to 14th St N), the water is only about 100 feet
from the road but you must
ascend and descend the stairs of
a seawall. From 2nd St N to 8th St N, it
is not necessary to ascend
a seawall to reach the water.
Regulations/Fees: 4WD on beach must have permit. In
summer,
a beach badge may be required.
Notes: The beach faces SE, therefore most people launch with
some
sort of an onshore wind so they do not float out to England in the
event of
a problem.
