The Hallieford launch is a very nice beginner friendly launch in
Mathews County into mouth of the Piankatank River.  The launch
is at the end of Rt 632 (Godfrey Bay Rd).A sandy bottom is
present, but at low tide, one must walk several hundred feet
out to find deep enough water to windsurf in.

Directions:  Get on VA Rt 198. A few miles NW of the village of
Mathews, at a place called Blakes, turn onto VA Rt 626 Hallieford
Road.  Travel 0.4 miles to VA Rt 632 and then turn left onto Rt 632
(Godfrey Bay Road). Stay on Godfrey Bay Road to an end and park.

Launch faces NE

Best Wind Direction: N, NE, E, SE

Fees: None

Amenities: trash barrels

Regulations:  private property on both sides.  Public area is
about 100 feet wide.  Owner to the left (NW) is strict about
people trespassing

Comments:  the beach is clean, has a nice sandy bottom, few
jellies, few weeds, best in high tide, on a summer weekend hot
afternoon, there may be many cars parked at the end of Godfrey
Bay Road as people bathe.  Nice beginner launch as it is shallow
way out.  It is recommended that you check the tidal forecast
before leaving. At a low tide, you may have to walk several
hundred feet out until you find deep enough water.
