Sandy point State Park is a launch on the Chesapeake next
to the West
end of the bay
bridge (US 50). The launch faces east across
the Chesapeake
and is optimal for storms
with NE winds. The admissions for
summer is $5
for MD plates and $6 for out-of state plates.
Sandy Point State Park, at the end of the 20th century,
was a popular
windsurf destination. On site were once windsurf schools and
rental facilities.
All that is gone, but you are still
allowed to launch
from here.
The location of the launch is in the small craft launch
area, to the
left (north) of the swimming area.
To get to the park, take exit 32 off US Rt 50. This
is the last exit
before the bay bridge going
east. Follow exit ramp to
stop sign and turn
left onto Oceanic drive. Travel 1000 ft to a fork
and
bear right for the park.
Continue another 1000 ft to the toll booth and
pay tool. After
toll booth,
continue another 1/2 mile and turn left at
sign for "Small Craft Launch".

craft
launch area
Travel about 1000 ft to an end at the parking lot. The parking lot is
U-shaped. Behind
bend in the U is the small craft launch area. The
launch area is sandy and is about 150 ft
wide and faces East.
Since the launch faces east, any wind without a west in it
is good,
but it is optimal
when there is a strong NE wind.
