Montana Beach (Sea Breeze, NY)

FIG. 1 view of the sandy launch area and the lake from the
Montana Beach launch
Launch is located on the west side (city side) of the Irondequoit Bay inlet,
which is at the north end of NY Rt 590 and Culver Road Launch
provides access to Lake Ontario. During summer, car bridge over the inlet
is closed to allow for boats to pass. As a result, one must access the
launch from the west side of the bay.
Fees: None
Hazards: one must sail to avoid the pier, beware of boat traffic
in summer
Do not sail with an offshore wind--the next land mass is 40 miles away and,
unless you get rescued, you probably will die of hypothermia. Sail only
with onshore winds.
Regulations: See FIG. 5 below
Notes: As with Durand Eastman Park, this launch is at a
sheltered portion of the lake,
which means that West winds are blocked by the land mass -- as a result, the
best wind
directions are somewhat limited to NW, N and NE
