FIG. 1B aerial view showing the Stone Harbor/Hereford
Inlet area launch locations
Stone Harbor actually contains two launches. The most frequently
used
one is into the ocean (FIG. 1). Sailors from this launch often
head back
into Hereford Inlet just to the south of this launch. The
other launch is
from Nummy island on Ocean Drive into a bay.
Directions (Ocean Launch): Exit the GSP near Cape May Court
House.
Specifically, when traveling south, exit onto East Shell Bay Ave,
enter GSP heading North, travel North for 1.5 miles, and exit at
exit at Stone
Harbor Road C.R. 657. For Northbound travelers,
simply exit GSP onto Stone
Harbor Road C.R. 657. Turn right
onto C.R. 657 and travel SE for about 4
miles, crossing the
great channel and becoming 96th street. Turn right
onto 2nd Ave
and travel to an end (about 1 mile). At 122nd street and on
the
left is a parking lot with a ramp to the beach.

Directions (bay launch): From within Stone Harbor, travel south
on 3rd Ave,
then bear right onto Ocean Drive towards N Wildwood. Cross
bridge over
great channel. Immediately after crossing this first bridge,
turn right into
a dirt launch area. From N Wildwood, travel north and
leave village. Before
crossing any bridge, turn right at traffic light
onto Ocean Drive towards
Stone Harbor. Cross the first bridge over Grassy
sound Channel. At foot
of second bridge (just before entering second
bridge), turn left into dirt
launch area.

Notes (bay launch): Launch faces ENE. Sailors typically go
straight out
and back--a mud flat exists at the far end for windsurfers to rest
or relax.
Bay is somewhat tranquil in that the currents are not too
overwhelming.
This bay launch may be suitable for beginners.
